TERMS YOU MAY SEE

ADD

The magnifying power applied to the reading part of bifocals or progressive lenses.

DV and NV

DV= Distance Vision NV=Near Vision
Indicates whether correction is needed for distance vision or near vision

CYL

CYLINDER power. The level of astigmatism.
It will be indicated together with either a minus (-) sign or plus (+) sign.

DVO

Distance-vision-only.

SPH

SPHERE: The overall power needed to correct near-or-far-sightedness.

NV

Near-vision prescription for up-close vision.

NVO

Near-vision-only. A prescription for reading-only glasses.

AXIS

Describes where the cylinder should be placed on the lenses to fix astigmatism.

OD

Right eye

Left eye

OU

Both eyes

PD

Pupillary Distance: The distance between your right pupil and your left pupil in millimeters (mm).
